Socialism: So what do we think? Is socialism a good thing? What are the merrits of socialism? What are the problems? It SEEMS that socialism goes hand-in-hand with ideas that are detrimental to family, such as abortion and same-sexmarriage? Is there truly a correlation, or is it imagined?

I think the number one reason that Socialism is not a good thing is that it takes away our freedom. Even if it's just socialistic health care. It still takes away our freedom to choose...to choose what doctor we want to go to. I'm so nervous that our American leaders are going to steer us to a more socialistic way of life and it is not what America is about.

Imagined. Do you know the stance of the former U.S.S.R. or modern China toward homosexuality? I believe that homosexuals can still not serve in the Russian military.

From Wikipedia:

"Socialism refers to a broad set of economic theories of social organization advocating state or collective ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods, and an egalitarian society characterized by equal opportunities for all individuals and a fair or egalitarian distribution of wealth."

Capitalism has a lot of issues, including monopoly, business cycles, unemployment, unequally distributed wealth, and the economic exploitation of workers. Is socialism the answer? Probably not. Are there some things that we can take from socialism to make our society better? Definitely.

Perhaps the reason it seems that socialism goes hand-in-hand with abortion and same-sex marriage is the egalitarian (or equality) principles, where everyone is treated equally. Although I don't think that same-sex marriage should be legalized, I can see how many homosexuals feel discriminated against or like they are treated like blacks used to be treated not so long ago. I have no problem with extending many rights to them that are commonly enjoyed only be legally married couples.

Ask yourself this: When Christ comes and reigns personally upon the earth, will our government look more capitalist or socialist?

Aaron?!?!? If you are trying to say that socialism is closer to how Christ will do it than capitalism is, you can forget it. 1st, the only thing in common with Christ's system that capitalism and socialism is that they are "systems" or "methods of organization" or whatever you want to call them. 2nd, a similar question might be which is closer to the number 3, purple or green? 3rd, Maybe a better question could be "which is closer to Satan's plan, capitalism or socialism?" Good point about learning from socialism.
